Pursuit of Truth

September 10, 2010 - 14:41

to be lied to is like death
you never see it coming
to turn great into less
to lose more than something

honesty above all else precludes
but in doing so the truth eludes
what is sacred can never be known
what is true cannot be shown

the truth is not told or written
it is not worshiped or smitten
it is embraced without reproach
its boundaries you cannot encroach

you don't choose truth, it chooses you
but you too must choose to be true
for truth's feet are forever fleeting
it provides no comfortable meeting

it is raw and pure and can never be shaped
it is blunt and jagged with cuts that gape
not everyone can bow to its mercy
can you forever handle depth instead of cursory

truth is all around but we don't look
truth doesn't explain, it leaves you shook
to pick up the pieces of reality and grow
learn, change, adapt, know, row and go

but the truth is you can't grasp
the truth that you will relapse
into the pain your lies create
to nourish you and supplicate

no one can be entirely honest
even those who try their earnest
because truth isn't told or sold
control is an illusion you cannot hold

you can never know the truth
so it's best to let it go, but don't forget
the lost innocence of youth
when life was simple without lies or regret
