Love of the Dark, Fear of the Night

April 24, 2010 - 01:05

No matter it always comes
Its presence like a drum
You see it in the distance
It is forever persistence

Abstraction personified
Depth of divinity vilified
It is absolute in truth
Present since our youth

It is the great unknown
It can even hide the throne
Nothing can escape it
It can dull every wit

Its existence not to give
It takes and doesn't forgive
In it anything can hide
Few can hope to guide

It has no true name
It doesn't play games
You can never hold or touch
Yet you can see how much

It falls like a wall
And lifts to reveal all
It moves like a wave
Grand as no certain cave

It surrounds my life
Penetrated by no knife
It resides inside me
Consuming my every be

It is the dark
It is my fear
It steals my bark
It makes me disappear

Nothing stops the night
Nothing brings the day
Nightmares full of fright
Thoughts real in every way

Now I pray before I sleep
Give me strength to last
In misery my heart weeps
But thankfully it shall pass
