The Fear We Love

January 14, 2010 - 10:32

The Fear We Love

Some of us are strong
Some of us are weaker
Yet all of us do wrong
Experience should make us meeker

Some of us put ourselves first
We don't consider or ponder
Quenching our own thirst
Never admitting why we wander

Our life is our own we say
I'm my own person, let me be
Which is how to walk alone each day
Never admitting the pain in me

No one wants to eat alone
We want to share life with another
Not someone who makes us groan
A lover, a friend, like a brother

But who comes first, them or me
Should we sacrifice ourselves for them
Who's to believe, do we trust what we see

Afraid to put the wrong person ahead
Breaking your spirit and your heart
A feeling we all learn to dread
Wishing we all were good and smart

We grow old, we're not invincible
We can't suffer rejection forever
So we learn to stick to a principle
And choose to love, well never

Life is easier to love just I
It's simple and we always keep going
But we need help to touch the sky
The love we want and need, always knowing

Why are we afraid to fall in love
Why do we fear giving another our life
Let's get to it, no more glove
But when we hurt, the cut, like a knife

Who should we love more
Why does it have to be a choice
It takes work the stuff of lore
To love yet stand and keep your voice

The truth is always in the middle
Compromise and trust can make it happen
Make big our hearts what once were little
When fate comes to that door, tappin

You put them first and take that chance
Hoping they do the same for you
But most times you never get to dance
Now fear is gone, bring on the blue
